About Our Expressionist Painting
Expressionist painting expresses meaning and emotion rather than a literal reality. My Expressionist Canvas Photo Painting techniques layer paint over photographs using various styles and colors to magnify the emotional and visual appeal of the subject; thereby creating a new and elevated handmade work of art.
On our order page you will be able to see examples and choose from Minimalist, Moderate and Maximal paint intensity; Splatter, Freckles, Spray and Drip styles; Heart, Cloud and Wave focal point framing. In addition, I ask that you share your color preferences and a story about the subject to inspire me.
About Me
My name is Jorge Armenteros and I am the founder and artist at Bobbie Light LLC. I have spent more than three decades running my own businesses in the arts, luxury goods and professional education industries, but I never had the ambition to be a professional painter. Ironically, I have always been obsessed with paintings, painters, colors and paint. As a young boy my mother would come home from a garage sale, flea market or arts festival with naïve/rustic Caribbean paintings and I would negotiate extra chores in exchange for the paintings: I had to have them! She was a genius because a lot of extra yard work and laundry got done for a few three-dollar paintings that still hang on my walls today.
I’m also a lover of photography and like so many people today, I love taking high quality pictures of people, places and things with my phone. When the opportunity to print personal photos onto canvas emerged in the early 2000’s I quickly adopted and started hanging them on my walls alongside my burgeoning folk and fine art painting collection.
Sometime around 2012 it struck me that many of the photographs on my walls would benefit from some of the vibrancy and emotion that only paint could convey, so I started painting and ‘enhancing’ my own pictures at home. Over time friends started admiring the work and requested their own custom pieces from me. And then friends of friends starting inquiring and commissioning paintings too. I loved it so much I would have done it for free, but I had to draw the line at friend of a friend of a friend; this is how I accidentally became a professional artist and painter.
To be honest, I never considered turning this into a “real” business because I loved it so much that it seemed incongruous. While all my other businesses have been passion projects, painting has always been very personal and private to me. This was all true until it wasn’t because something inside of me changed. On December 30th, 2023 my beloved and magnificent mongrel Bobbie Light passed away. It was not unexpected, in fact I was able to spend the previous two years taking good care of her, accommodating her increasing needs, and making her life as special and loving as she had made mine. This was the greatest honor and accomplishment of my life.
By January 1st I had ordered a special picture I had taken of her a couple of years previous and was excited to hang it above my bed. When the canvas picture arrived, I hung it with joy and admired it for a day or two, but I knew something was missing. Even the best picture in the world couldn’t convey the energy, love and beauty that Bobbie possessed: I had to paint it! Somehow this was the catalyst for the Bobbie Light LLC storefront/business and my passion to elevate your pictures into vivacious works of art. I want to paint your beloved pictures because the world needs more Light and Love.
And that’s how I try to make a long story short...
